Robinson Wedding

One of my partners-in-crime tied the knot! And because she loves me, she let me help with the event.

Audrey and I have done several parties together - so it was uber fun to work on her wedding. She knew exactly what she wanted and we worked for a couple months on various projects. My husband has sworn off the color yellow after this.

She chose yellow and grey for her colors - and wanted it to have modern touches mixed with some rustic elements. The venue was the Frisco Heritage Center in Frisco, TX. Absolutely charming little Chapel with several old houses on the property for the ladies to get dressed in, as well as a barn-like structure for the reception.

We made yellow tissue pompons that the venue hung for us - (Thanks Brenda!). Then as the backdrop for the Bride & Groom table we took a grapevine wreath and threaded ribbon through and attached an "R" that the Mother-of-the-Bride found. (I believe it was made by rehabilitated prisoners?)

The honeycomb fabric in the center of the B&G table was a remnant. It is actually a sheer fabric, but Audrey's MIL sewed a yellow backing to it and a yellow end piece so we could use it on a couple tables. The backing material was also used for the two runners on either side. We decided for this look instead of the traditional runner direction, to really showcase the little bit of fabric we had. And it enabled us to use the fabric in more than one place inside the reception area.

Here is the B&G table after the flowers arrived. The flowers in the center were also used on the piano inside the chapel and then brought into the reception. You can also see the Bride's bouquet in the silver vase. Seriously - how amazing are those flowers?

Each reception table was covered in a silver table cloth, and then Audrey found Outdoor fabric that matched the yellow. She hot-glued ribbon to the edges and then spray painted a silver pattern on the fabric. Perfection.
Audrey and her mom wanted to make sure that when you walked into the reception - it POPPED. I think we accomplished that. Old shutters that took TWENTY coats of paint (seriously, HOURS and HOURS). Audrey found the fabric locally - and although you can't see, the yellow centers are embroidered. Wonderful texture. We mounted the shutters and the "R" by screwing them in from behind.

The background shelf is actually a piece of wood and two candlesticks. Alot of spray paint and some E6000 and VOILA! Perfect Riser. The cake stand was found at Hobby Lobby and painted the same yellow as the shutters and the "R". For just a little extra, we cut out a couple of the flowers from the material and spray glued them onto a few items. One of which is the white vase holding the unicorn suckers.

And of course - I am obsessed with white serving pieces - so most of those displayed are mine that I brought with me. The three-tiered dishes are from JC Penny's, and they were sprayed white to match.

The food was unbelievable and I can NOT say enough wonderful things about the caterers. So helpful, so friendly and everything was delicious. Deviled Eggs, Mac & Cheese bar, mini-hot dogs, Texas Cavier.... (sigh).. I wish I had leftovers still.

And finally - a few pictures of the gorgeous couple!

Emmarie Jackson did the photography - and these are stolen from her blog. (see links below). As soon as she sends more pics - I will be thrilled to post more.

No time for photos

Busy weekend - in additon to working on a wedding for this Labor Day weekend, I also had to help out with my God Childrens' bday party. What I didn't do - is allot time for picture taking. I am posting anyway because the party was super sweet and super fun.
This was the drink area. Purple, pink and green striped straws in mason jars with lemonade.

This picture just sucks all the way around. But the table looked great in real life. The cake plate was wrapped in paper and then the cake looked like a mushroom. Oh well.

Not pictured - all the activity tables and strung lantern. I bet I hung thirty pastel lanterns. Sorry, no pics - maybe someone else took some and I can update later.

Look - it's Her Royal Heinous!
Uncle Kiki asked her to say "Cheese" and got the true HRH expression.

My gorgeous God-Child E turned 5
And her Dapper Bat-man twin brother Blanton

And of course, everyones favorite imp (behind HRH) - Catty

Not my child, or a bday recipient - but still one gorgous gal. Just started walking - love her!

Lesson 3,584 - Spray Painting while Shaving

Ooops. - Working on my first wedding.

So my idea of saving myself from the August heat by laying down paper on my kitchen countertops to paint on, didn't quite go as planned. I am sure most of you smart people would figure that out in advance, but I am exhausted and I didn't. GUESS WHAT HAPPENED? The paint dripped down the edges and under the board, Gluing it to the paper and creating a paint ridge.

Hard to see since the paper and the board are the same color. But MAJOR problem. I have to pack up the trailer and leave Wednesday (Thank you Hurricane Isaac). No time for re-dos now.

So I used a razor blade and firmly guided it down the edges of the board.

It peeled right off. I mean, RIGHT OFF. So just incase anyone else is as feeble minded as myself - always keep razor blades handy. Wait. I mean, always keep razor blades at hand. No... that doesn't sound right either.

(The short side hasn't been shaved)

So almost finished project. Board (free) - paint (free) - candlesticks 13.99 for two at Hobby Lobby.

Finally learning how to properly shave - priceless.

Ahhhh - now that vegetable shooters can rest well knowing their bed has been made.

Shabby Chic Birthday Party

When our client (and one of my VERY best friends - KK) called (emailed, texted, and IM'd) about doing her daughter’s first birthday, she had some specific ideas, she was looking for a girly “Shabby Chic” party.

The color scheme was based off the fabric banner I did for an Easter Tablescape featuring pinks, yellows, light browns and pops of teal.
The invitations were die-cut and designed to be sweet and girly, just like the birthday girl. The client wanted her monogram to be a prominent feature – which we carried into several other components, including the oversized quilted monogram centerpiece that matched the shape of the die cut invitation.

KK knew what she wanted and had constant input. She wanted a rose cake, so we ordered a 10” cake from Aly B’s, along with cupcakes and cookies in shape of “1” for favors. The wafer flowers were purchased in three complimenting colors and gently placed on the cupcakes for a beautiful decorative touch. Cake plates and candlesticks displayed the cupcakes. Then teal blue tins of baby’s breath, tulips and daisies created the perfect pop of color.

Wooden spoons and forks were purchased and hand stamped with the birthday girl’s name and an additional fabric banner was created and then used to drape the high-chair and create the perfect pictures of Avery eating her first cake. Left over fabric scraps from the banner were used to wrap mason jars for flower arrangements. Finally the main table was draped in an eyelet lace fabric with a soft pink underlay and the fabric banner, then framed by giant pink and teal lanterns.
The centerpiece was created with an open back frame set into a planter with dowels and plaster. The monogram was printed and then hand-sewn with thin teal ribbon. The base was filled with baby's breath.

Other details include: frozen water balloons used in the drink bucket, a “1” candle that was  bedazzled with stick on pearls and crown candleholders that were spray-painted white and used to hold flower arrangements. Fabric tulips form the Michael's dollar section were used liberally throughout the yard to continue the color scheme in a very fun way. The day was beautiful, the party was a huge success and that made for one happy, happy family.

Let's Geaux to the farm!

Have I mentioned that I have joined forces with Magnolia Creative to create a children's event planning service called Let's Geaux Party?  We started with a joint birthday party for my God-Children Elizabeth and Blanton, and their little sister Catherine (or Catty as we call her)

This was our first joint party and I feel so proud of it. The party was at their Grandparents house in Greenwood, LA. There was a petting zoo with chickens, goats and rabbits - and of course - PONIES.

The mom wanted a hand drawn illustration of the farm animals with a sort of "story book feel". We took the invitation a step farther by having the barn doors open to revel the invitation wording.

We set the very long dining table and lunch up inside the motor coach "barn". The cake and drinks were set up inside the actual barn complete with a stable right inside and behind the cake. It made for some very amused guests who were greeted by horses whenever they went to get a treat. I scoured the local thrift shops for cowboy boots for centerpieces, some I painted and some were left to their vintage feel (inspired by Orange Blossom and Stephanie Lynn). We set up small hay bales and sunflowers on the table with toppers made in the same style as the party invitation. Horse head bookends were also used to add to the western feel.

Lunch was served out of a "chuck wagon" packaged in kraft gable boxes and topped off with a delicious animal cookie from Frog Prince Cake and Cookie Design. Aly B's Bakery in Shreveport made the delicious farm cake topped off with fondant farm animals from Two Sugar Babies. We also added a hand maid denim, burlap and gingham cake bunting behind the animals. Cupcakes were purchased from Sam's and topped off with cupcake toppers to match the rest of the party collateral.

Each child received their own western cowboy hat hung on the fence (inspired by Hickey Pickety) and a chance to shop at the "General Store" for fun treats and toys. All the children got to ride on the donkeys and horses, pet goats, sheep and ducks and ride in a special barrel train owned by the grandparents. I think the kids had almost as much fun as we had putting this party together. We had a blast down on the farm!
